Autoclave manufacturers introduce basic knowledge about autoclaves

Summary: Over time, a large number of surgical instrument packs, fabric dressing packs, and cavity instruments such as bone marrow puncture needles appeared. It was found that simply exhausting the cold air from the sterilizer was insufficient, as there was residual cold air and wet packs in the cavity instruments clinically. Therefore, some people began to explore installing vacuum pumps on sterilizers to improve the efficiency of removing cold air inside the sterilizer and to solve the problem of wet packaging. Finally, in the early 1970s, the 2.0 version of the pressure steam sterilizer was introduced, replacing the gravity displacement pressure steam sterilizer, and was named the prevacuum pressure steam sterilizer. Finally, in the early 1970s, version 2.0 of the pressure steam sterilizer was introduced, replacing the gravity displacement pressure steam sterilizer. It was named the prevacuum pressure steam sterilizer. Its characteristic is low-pressure (negative pressure) exhaust before the sterilizer enters the sterilization process.
Horizontal sterilizer manufacturers remind everyone that before choosing a pressure steam sterilizer, you need to understand several things related to the sterilization effect:
1. Sterilization temperature and time
Depending on the capacity, autoclaves can be divided into three types: portable, vertical, and horizontal, with vertical autoclaves being more common. Because large equipment typically costs more and has more functions, many people believe that large equipment is better than small sterilization equipment. However, this is a misconception.
As long as the sterilizer's volume can accommodate the sterilization items, the packaging and loading of the sterilization items meet the regulations, and the "temperature-time" program of 121℃ for 20-30 minutes or 132℃ for 4-4 minutes is executed, the specified sterilization effect can be achieved.
2. Steam dryness
The sterilizer should use saturated steam with a dryness not less than 0.9, i.e., the moisture content of the steam does not exceed 10%, and the dryness should not be less than 0.95 under metal load conditions to maintain a linear relationship between temperature and pressure.
3. Packaging and placement of sterile items
When sterilizing items, the sterilization packs should not be too large or too tight, leaving enough space to facilitate steam circulation and drying of the sterilized items. When sterilizing containers such as beakers and test tubes, they should be placed upside down or horizontally; otherwise, sterilization will be incomplete. In addition, be careful not to block the holes and temperature sensors in the sterilizer.
4. Water quality affects the sterilizer's effect and lifespan.
The selection of water for the sterilizer is also important. If the water quality does not meet the requirements, problems such as scale and corrosion may occur, affecting the sterilizer's effect and lifespan. It is recommended to use soft water or pure water with a hardness between 0.7~2.0 mmol/l. Used water should be filtered, and the sterilizer itself should be kept clean.
5. Sterile duration is related to packaging.
Horizontal sterilizer manufacturers say that how long sterilized items remain sterile depends on their packaging material. For exposed items, they must be used immediately; for fabric packaging, they can be stored for 7-14 days; hard containers can remain dry for half a year. However, if wet bags appear after sterilization, they are considered invalid.
